My name is John Riordan. I am an attorney and 33-year resident of Sudbury. My wife Tina is a teacher at Noyes School in the Sudbury Extended Day program. Together we raised 4 children in this beautiful town, sending them all through the excellent Sudbury public schools and Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School. I have been a little league coach, hockey coach, and past President of the youth hockey program. I have served on my parish council and currently work with our neediest residents through my service in the St. Vincent de Paul Society. I have been a long-time member of the Friends of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. I have a deep commitment to our town.

First, I want to thank Bob Haarde and Len Simon for their long and outstanding service as departing Selectmen. We owe them a great debt of gratitude. When Len and Bob indicated they were not contemplating running for reelection I considered whether I could step up and offer myself as a capable candidate. Many friends and colleagues encouraged me to run, and the one thing I kept hearing in those conversations was “experience.”

Today the Town of Sudbury is a $100 million enterprise with multiple operational centers. It requires skilled leadership, skills that are borne of experience. I have that experience. It is experience in government. I am Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, a member of the Earth Removal Board and I currently serve on the Town’s Master Plan Steering Committee. Most recently I served as part of the Town’s negotiating team with the Quarry North LLC development group working to secure the best possible outcome for the town in the face of an appalling 40B threat to our historic town center.

I have served as senior tax and corporate counsel for the Committee on Ways and Means, U.S. House of Representatives, as general counsel for an international reinsurance company, in state government as Deputy General Counsel of a major state agency and as an economic development and planning director for a neighboring community. I have a close working relationship with all of our elected state officials. In a word, I am ready to lead. I have the experience. It matters.

I respectfully ask for your vote for Selectman on Monday, March 25. Thank you.
